Texas Tech 5, Alabama 4 — WCWS Semifinal Game 13 Recap & Box Score

Texas Tech refused to go home. Mia Williams led off the bottom of the seventh with a walk-off home run to left-center, and the No. 11 Red Raiders stunned No. 1 overall seed Alabama 5-4 to force a winner-take-all deciding game. Tech out-homered the Tide to stay alive: Hailey Toney's RBI double tied it in the second and Lauren Allred's solo shot put the Red Raiders up 2-1 in the third, and after Marlie Giles answered with a solo homer in the fourth, Taylor Pannell's two-run blast in the fifth made it 4-2. Alabama wasn't done — Jena Young crushed a two-run homer in the top of the seventh to tie it 4-4 — but Williams ended it one half-inning later. The pitching was a two-way scramble: Kaitlyn Terry started, ace NiJaree Canady relieved in the second and was charged with Giles' homer, Terry came back in the fourth and gave up Young's tying shot, and Canady got the last two outs of the seventh to earn the win. Freshman Vic Moten took the loss in relief of SEC Pitcher of the Year Jocelyn Briski. Alabama actually out-hit Texas Tech 10-8, but four of the five Red Raider runs came on the long ball. The same two teams meet again tonight for the right to face defending champion Texas in the championship series.
